ASSIGNMENT

This lesson is adapted from Don Giannatti’s Article.
THE CHALLENGE
Don Giannatti’s article dispels the myth that impactful photography requires elaborate setups or expensive gear, arguing instead that meaningful creative growth happens through fast, focused micro-projects. By committing to short, two-hour exercises—such as capturing a single object five different ways, studying natural shadows, or building compositions from everyday kitchen tools—photographers can break through creative blocks and sharpen core skills like lighting, composition, and color storytelling. Crucially, these low-stakes challenges prioritize the process over perfection, reframing “bad” photos as essential learning opportunities that refine visual awareness. Ultimately, setting a timer and simply shooting without overthinking helps photographers strip away perfectionism, stretch their creative muscles, and reconnect with the pure joy of seeing.
